Awesome Wonder

Today, I was really taken with a verse in The Message translation of 1 Timothy 6:11,12 where Paul writes, "But you, Timothy, man of God...Pursue a righteous life - a life of wonder, faith, love, steadiness, courtesy. Run hard and fast in the faith. Seize the...life you were called to." What a fantastic verse! The part that stands out for me is the phrase, "a life of wonder." O how we need to be people of wonder!

The word "wonder" can mean "to feel amazement" (Webster's Dictionary). As I ponder this definition, I can think of many reasons why we as Christians must be people who live in wonder of all that God has made and all that He has done. And this is not just past tense! Every day there are things to be amazed at! There is the new fallen snow! There is the joy of family and friends! There is the blessing of our salvation and the great joy of life in the Spirit! There is the wonder of God's provision - food, clothing, shelter, health, strength - and so much more! Then there is the wonder of God Himself! His beauty, His presence, His love, His care, His faithfulness - and so much more! In fact, there is more to Him than we can actually imagine. Perhaps this why Anselm of Canterbury said, God is "that than which nothing greater can be thought." Who can take all of God in? Truly, we stand in His presence full of amazement, like the old hymn says, "O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made."

Let today, be a day of wonder! Take the time to wonder about all you see, and to wonder about all that is coming - the good, the beautiful, and the truly wonderful things God has prepared for those who believe!

Thanks Bill. These days I enjoy the wonder of just being alive more than ever. And being alive in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit in the purpose of God is the empowering force of that wonder!

Great piece Bill. The works and creation of our God are wonder-full. Praise God, we are wonderfully made in His image. We are created to declare, display and manifest the praises and wonders of our God.
