Growing Older

In his little booklet entitled Take Your Hat Off, Son! Bible teacher Charles Simpson has complied a number of stories that he has either heard over the years, or in some cases, they are events that actually happened to him as a minister of the gospel. In one section of the book, he tells the following humorous story about an aging couple.

There was an elderly couple in bed one night. The old gentleman was just about to go to sleep when his wife nudged him and said: “Honey, you don’t love me anymore!”

Taken aback by her comment, the old fellow said, “Why do you say that dear?”

She said, “Well, in days gone by you used to hug me more than you do now.”

So, the old gentleman rolled over and gave his wife a big hug, and then rolled back to his side of the bed thinking, “Now I can get settled for a good night’s sleep. After a few moments, his wife said, “You know darling, you used to tell me that you loved me.”

So, once again, the old gentleman, now fully awake, said, “Well, dear, I love you. I really do.” After this, he thought, now I can get some sleep.

A few minutes later, she still hadn’t gone to sleep, so she said. “This may sound silly, but when we were younger, you used to nibble me on the ear.”

With that, the old gentleman got out of bed and started for the bathroom. “Where are you going?” his wife said to him.

In reply, he said, “I’m going to the bathroom to get my teeth!”
